My favorite quote of the week – Grey’s Anatomy

“Turns out sometimes you have to do the wrong thing. Sometimes you have to make a big mistake to figure out how to make things right. The stakes are painful. They’re the only way to find out who you really are. I know who I am now. And I know what I want.” (from GA season 3 epi 3)
Here’s my take:

We all make mistakes especially in our youth and later on, it kind of defines who we are. We learn from our mistakes and hope against hope we don’t commit the same mistakes. People get hurt along the way. Sometimes not deliberately. Some people will never forgive us for our mistakes, as if they never committed mistakes in their lives themselves. But we go on with our lives and do the best that we can.

Not everyone gets second chances, sometimes they are branded for life. Some people never get back on their feet and buries themselves deeper in sorrow and anguish and depression. Others bounce right back, shrug it off and just do the best they can. I would like to believe I belong to the latter. I did encounter lots of trials and tribulations and I have managed to emerge a well rounded person (I hope). I think those mistakes that I made in my youth made me a better person. And I know what I want. I am older and wiser and I have learned a lot from my mistakes. I will continue to make mistakes but I will continue to learn and live.

Facebook, Twitter, Social Media & Me

It took me so long before I finally succumbed to the evil that is Facebook. The brag book of the current time, I resisted creating an account even though everybody I know was wondering why they can’t find and “friend” me.

And so I did. I started with a few friends, only the close ones, family and some of my co-workers.

And it grew and grew. Before I knew it, I have about 559 “friends”.

It all started out innocently- updating on friends’ lives, seeing how they’re doing, where they’re at, how they look like. Then it became a little stalkerish- where did they spend the weekend and with whom? And then it became a moral issue- a “friend” suddenly unfriended me, I think she was trying to get rid of her friends pre-boob job. Some people who post religious stuff got to be too preachy and holier than thou= hide posts. A friend who only posts selfies (real close-up selfies!) = hide posts. Then you see supposed friends who went someplace else when they canceled on you at the last minute because they were “sick”. And why do I not get that many likes nor comments on my posts? Feeling of inadequacy and questioning my self-worth, I finally decided to be “inactive”. And now I get the questions as to why I’m never on Facebook.

I did twitter so that I can join fellow “Beauty and the Beast” fans to get the show trending and to get a second season. We got the second season. Done. I have stopped posting now.

I did Get Glue to help with ratings of TV shows that I liked, only to have said shows canceled after a few episodes/seasons (Revolution? Are you kidding me? That was an awesome show!)

Instagram started out because I “followed” these two celebrities (cheesy, I know, don’t judge me). And I like looking at fashion and cupcakes. It has been 6 months since I posted anything.

Will I fall prey to yet another? We shall see.

So Pacey aka Joshua Jackson did not make it to Grey’s Anatomy because of the writer’s strike. And I guess Kevin McKidd got the spot instead. Honestly, I couldn’t imagine Pacey with Christina. Izzie, yes but she belongs to either George or Alex. Preferably Alex.

Anyways, Pacey is now in the new JJ Abrams show “Fringe”. The same JJ Abrams who’s the genius behind “Lost”. And let me say what a joy to have Pacey back to the small screen once again. Being part of my week and adding to my must-see TV list.

Fringe is a sci-fi thriller pretty much like the X-files meets Alias. In fact the lead female character has been compared to Jennifer Garner in “Alias”. Which to me, is no comparison. No one compares to Jen Garner. But maybe that’s just me.

This is must watch TV. They unravel or at least they try to unravel mysteries every week. And it is fascinating to watch. Add to that the fact that the commercial breaks are 90 seconds long as compared to other TV shows’ 3 minute commercial break slots. There’s this cool voice over that always says: “Fringe will be back in 90 seconds”. And that makes you even more glued to the TV. Blink and you miss the next scene. Genius!

Grey’s Anatomy Season 5 epi 1

After a long summer and waiting with bated breath as to what will become of MerDer, the day has finally come. The 2 hour season premiere that teased us in between shows. The teasers that made us groan and anticipate and dread the show. But it was finally here and I watched. Once again with the same warning to my family and friends not to call nor disturb me from 9-11 pm.

I fluffed the pillows, huddled on the floor with my throw as I waited for the show to start. I wasn’t expecting much. Just happy that my favorite show is finally back.

The episode’s title was Dream a Little Dream of Me. It was supposedly about dreams. About what’s real and what’s not. About fairy tales and happily ever after. About mistakes and forgiveness. About the after effects and what lies beyond.

One reason why I love this show is that it somehow speaks to me. Not just the living vicariously through the characters part but the dialogues, the music, the emotions, the angst, what everyone is going through. Almost everything speaks to me. And though I am aware of the fact that we sometimes see what we want to see and hear what we want to hear, the fact that more often than not, I see and hear what I need to at the moment just blows me away. And that is why even though there are lots of new shows, I stuck it with Grey’s.

I might be reading more into this than I have to. Heck, people might even think I should get a life. But it helps me. A lot. It makes me laugh, cry, scream, angry more than any other show I have ever watched in my entire life. And so I continue to watch.

SPOILER ALERT. please do not read beyond this point if you haven’t watched the season premiere

There were a lot of mixed reviews – about how disappointed they are with the scene where Rose told Derek she’s pregnant and then telling him it was a joke. How Rose’s exit was abrupt. How the icicle somehow managed to not melt in Christina’s chest (I thought it was her stomach). A lot of great expectations I guess, this being the season’s premiere. But I thought it was okay. I wasn’t expecting much, like I said. I was just glad for the show to be back. For something to look forward to on Thursday nights. Tuesday nights is Fringe with Joshua Jackson, but that’s another story. And Pushing Daisies on Wednesdays, yet another story. But you get my drift.

I can’t wait to see what happens next on Grey’s. Here’s one thing I cannot understand though: what’s with the whole Denny thing? Izzie showing her gown and all that while she was looking at Alex being all evil and mean again. And then flashing through a whole scene of her and Denny and ending with them walking into the light. What the heck did it mean?

No matter, I can’t wait for next week. BTW, here’s one of the best songs played during the epi.

And this song has yet to be released but I absolutely LOVE the song and will buy the first copy. What a pleasant surprise to find this version by a Filipina-American, no less.

My Favorite Grey’s Anatomy MV

This is my favorite GA music video so far. The scenes are from Season 4. A very timely post since GA starts in 5 days. FIVE DAYS!!! I am so excited! Pushing Daisies starts on Oct. 1st and I can’t wait. Gotta love Fall for the returning shows!

I love this song- Broken by Lighthouse. For some reason, when I was feeling all down in the dumps, I listened to and watched this song on Youtube. You can say it helped me cope. I especially love this version:

Grey’s Anatomy epi 414 – The Becoming

I didn’t like this episode at all. And the ratings aren’t looking too good either. Sad. I don’t even know what to say except that I hate Rose even more. And I am getting uncomfortable with Hahn which is such a shame because I used to like her character. I like where they’re taking Mark’s character. I like it that Christina finally spoke up in this epi. I wish her good things. I didn’t like the ending of this epi. Literally open ended. Liked it better where the voice overs would somehow “close” the epi. This one didn’t. Me not happy.

It is interesting to note though that they initially brought up Mark for just a few episodes but ended up extending his run. Pretty much like Addison’s character before. Hmmm, I wonder if they’re going to like Mark that much to give him his own spin-off.

Now there are talks that Katherine Heigl might be leaving Grey’s. And I don’t like that. Not at all. I hope she doesn’t leave.

People are getting tired of all the will they or won’t they with MerDer. What is this? Friends with Rachel and Ross? It’s getting pretty old. I hope they finally get them together if they are indeed MFEO.

There are just a few episodes left in this season and I do hope they make it worthwhile.

Grey’s Anatomy epi413 – Piece of my Heart

They always use the medical aspect of the show for metaphors on what’s going on in their lives. And though it might not be cryptic as Lost where even the minute details count (as I picked up from listening on the radio and reading about it in the papers), with Grey’s all you do is read between the lines. Dig deeper. And look deep in your heart about what speaks to whom.

WARNING : SPOILERISH CONTENTS, Pls don’t read unless you want to know what happened in this epi

In this episode, I love that Addison is back. And how I miss her so. It’s good that she has her own spin-off and all but she will forever be Addison to most of us. The beyotch who got between MerDer. She with the Catherine Deneuve beauty. The redhead who walks around SGH and still look great when others look exhausted. She who tells it like it is. And she who McDreamy married. That says something. But I digress. Addison was back in this epi because she said: “I just wanted to make sure that it was okay to leave”. We got a chance to see SGH in Addison’s point of view – the Vagina monologues with Hahn and Callie, Bailey’s sadness and the reason for it which she only divulged to Addison, Hahn’s treatment of Christina, the un-couple that is MerDer. And since she didn’t have anything to lose as she was leaving, she called it when she saw it. She told it like it is and went Dr. Phil on Meredith. It’s funny how last week I was neutral on Alex and Izzie as their characters didn’t do much last week. But on this epi, we were able to get a glimpse as to what their characters are going through and the changes that go along with it. Izzie is finally stepping out and finding her voice. She is still the emotional surgeon with excellent bedside manners but she is clearer now. Who knew it would take Ghandi to take her out of the shadows? Alex is one complex character we never got a real grip on. We never fully understand what makes him surly and an a**hole at times and sweet and caring the next. All we know is that there was something in his past that made him what he is. I have a feeling we will find out more about him in the soming epis Bailey, who must keep it together when she’s dying deep inside. All in all, this epi was pretty much like the old Grey’s that we loved. I think the writer’s strike helped in that the producers and the other writers listened to what the viewers are seeing, what they want, what they believe in. And I think they even read those fan fics too and have gotten some ideas. It’ll be interesting what happens next…

My TV Night is Back!

Grey’s is Back! The long awaited epi after the writer’s strike was aired last night. And I had to remind my family that I am back as well. Meaning back to my old schedule of TV night. It started with Ugly Betty at 8 pm where the pathetic Henry proved even more pathetic and the Baby Mama proved to be more annoying. I loved Hida’s protecting her baby sister, Justin’s sassyness and Christina’s accent. While Alexis is growing on me and Renee and Wilhelmina is proving to be the sisters from hell. Too melodramatic and soap opera-ish, if you ask me. Mark had a lot of airtime in this one, not a lot for Amanda. And Gio, the knight in shining armor needs to better get his groove on and start talking!
The commercials were oh so painstakingly plentiful and entertaining at the same time. New movies to watch out for – Hancock with Will Smith, Speed racer with Emile Hirsch and Christina Ricci, Ironman with Robert Downey Jr. etc.
And GA! Oh where do I start? let’s start with what I didn’t like:
Rose, nuff said
Christina-too worshipy of Hahn
what I did like:
George finally admitting he complains too much and vowed not to anymore
Lexie – looking all puppy eyed and delivering her own “pick me, choose me, love me” not in a romantic way though
The Chief – acting all authoritative and delivering advices at the same time, shows heart, compassion and caring
Meredith – finally admitting she has a problem and is taking steps to move forward
Neutral (but I still love them both)
Next Thursday promises to be a promising week as well. Can’t wait!!!
