Just got back from a weekend in Florida. We drove over for my one and only niece’s 2nd bday party and their house blessing. There was about 60 people crammed in their house. The weather did not cooperate and what should have been a nice party out in their spacious backyard turned out to be a standing-room-only party. People just stood because they ran out of chair but it was a successful party. A diverse mixture too composed of course mainly Filipinos but there were caucasians, hispanics, african americans and middle eastern people too. The kids had fun because they had lots of playmates and my sister rented a bouncy thing (the name escapes me at this moment) where they had lots of exercise jumping around. The food was plentiful – spaghetti, macaroni salad, fried chicken, caldereta, puto, cakes, cassava bibingka, dinuguan, etc., etc. My brother-in-law (who’s Italian-American) loves dinuguan for some reason. One of the guests asked what it was and my bro-in-law said: chocolate stew. The lady (who’s caucasian, btw) relished it with gusto as the filipinos all around her were watching her. She did not seem to mind and just ate away. I don’t know if she ever did find out what it was. The party ended at around 10 pm and by then the kids were pooped.
We had to leave the next day. Back to life, back to reality.
